Book Description
LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS IN GENERAL CHEMISTRY FEATURING MEASURENET is the first self-directed laboratory manual to incorporate experiments conducted with MeasureNet — an innovative, network data collection system that introduces students to “real world” chemistry. With the new use of MeasureNet, experiments are more precise, only requiring small quantities of chemicals, making the lab safer and environmentally friendly. This laboratory manual is designed to first prepare students for the laboratory setting through conceptual and technique experiments. Students then work to solve a multi-component question, utilizing what they learned in previous experiments. Through this approach, and with the help of MeasureNet’s modern electronic data collection, analysis, and reduction, students truly prepare themselves for conducting chemistry in a professional setting!

About the Author

Bobby Stanton received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Tennessee Technological University and his doctorate from The University of Tennessee. He is an Academic Professional at the University of Georgia and serves as the Coordinator of General Chemistry Laboratories. He is involved in the development of Self-Directed (a form of guided inquiry) experiments designed for the MeasureNet Digital Data Acquisition System, and has authored or co-authored 15 publications in journals such as ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY AND APPLIED SPECTROSCOPY.

Lin Zhu received his Bachelor’s Degree from Peking University in Beijing, China, and his Ph.D. from University of Hawaii at Manoa. He has taught at University of Hawaii at Manoa and at Hilo. He is currently a Franklin Fellow at the University of Georgia. He is involved in the development of experiments designed for the MeasureNet Digital Data Acquisition System and has authored or co-authored articles in journals such as JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY and MICROPOROUS AND MESOPOROUS MATERIALS.

Charles Atwood received his Bachelor’s Degree from Millsaps College and his Doctorate from Florida State University. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Georgia, involved in researching the introduction of new technologies for the educational presentation and testing of chemical phenomena. He also researches emerging computer technologies that will enhance teaching of freshman chemistry. He is the author or co-author of over thirty papers appearing in the JOURNAL OF CHEMICAL EDUCATION, THE CHEMIST the JOURNAL OF RADIOANALYTICAL AND NUCLEAR CHEMISTRY, and several books. He is the Coordinator of Freshman Chemistry at the University of Georgia, which serves over 4,000 students per year.
